Interview
Art is beyond morality and conventional beauty
Can you tell us something about your hometown and growing up?
I was born in Coyoacan, one traditional village of Mexico City. My first memories are about my grandparents garden, where I used to go out from my parents continuous fighting.
When did you publish your first book and how did the success follow later?
My first book, published by Luis Mario Schneider was “Interregno”, a plaquette in the collection “The books of the fakir” (1885). Then I published a more complete collection of poems in my book “Contralianza”(1985), edited by Francisco Valero.
It was in 1986 when my book “Mástil en tierra” got the “Luis Cernuda” award in Sevilla, Spain.
The true purpose of art is to uplift humankind, inspire reverence and morality, and instill in people’s hearts a true sense of beauty?
I think art is the most powerful way to reveal the true essence of mankind. It is beyond morality and conventional beauty.
Writing poetry with specific philosophy behind it and romantic, amorous feelings or existence?
Writing poetry is a physical and spiritual adventure. It is not a biographic or philosophical issue, but an imperative which implicates all life.
Stories that create compositions full of sensuality, sometimes disturbing but always full of charm have the feelings of pain and pleasure?
I think writing erotic poetry is always a risk. Pain and pleasure go together.
More books published in the genres of poetry, short stories, essays and art theory?
I have more than twenty books published. 18 books of poetry, 2 of short stories, 1 of essay and 5 of art theory. As an example: “Conjuro del espejo” (2002), “Poemas chamánicos” (2007) “Ritual de excesos” (2006), “Pensamiento en piedra” (2004).
You enjoy writing Haiku and beautiful Haiga?
Yes, I enjoy them very much. I have published haiku with World Haiku Asociation in Tokio, Japan.
What can you tell us about your work, prizes, journeys and friendships?
I teach at National Autonomous University of Mexico as national researcher. I have won poetry prizes in México, Spain, Chile end Cuba.
How do you manage all that with so much work that you do? Do you have time for yourself? What inspires you?
Time spent in writing is the most valuable time for me. Living new experiences is my best inspiration.
Iliana Godoy’s career in a few years?
I would like to continue my research in Mesoamerican art and creative writing,
Have you achieved everything you have ever wanted to and if you could live your life again would you be an artist again?
Art never ends.
I can not imagine my self otherway.
